Rivera from Ferdinand

Brazilian singer Ferdinand has just released his debut single. The midtempo Latin-pop dance cut, named Rivera, is an homage to Venezuelan-American LGBT rights fighter Sylvia Rivera.

A pioneer of trans rights activism and one of the leaders of the Stonewall riots, Rivera's most famous moment is her speech during the 73 New York Pride Parade during which she denounced the hypocrisy of lesbian, gay and bisexual movement leaders who refused to allow space for transgenders, or indeed any of the less well-off sectors of the community, to voice their demands. Her opening words "Y'all better quiet down!" get referenced in the lyrics, written in both English and Spanish to reflect the fighter's heritage.

I was a good friend of Sylvia Rivera. I am so happy you wrote this song. I will share it with her friends.
